Mozambique expands first experience of natural gas distribution
The network, located in the Mozambican province of Inhambane, has gained 260 new residential consumers and the distribution of piped natural gas totals around 2,000 customers, mostly families, in the districts of Vilankulo, Inhassoro and Govuro, the company announces in a statement.
ENH president Omar Mithá believes that the project is an example of fuel distribution that “helps families save more than they did before buying coal, firewood or electricity.”
With about 350 kilometers, the northern network of Inhambane was the first experience of distribution of natural gas piped for family, commercial and industrial use in Mozambique, started in 1992.
ENH and the South Korean state-owned company Kogas have been developing, since 2014, a similar piped natural gas distribution network in the city of Maputo and Marracuene district, which currently has 20 consumers, including commercial and industrial customers.
The sector is expected to grow in the domestic market by exploiting natural gas off the northern coast of Mozambique in four to five years.
